About the program
This certificate program provides students and professionals with cutting-edge knowledge in 3D Engineering (3DE) and Additive Manufacturing (AM) — one of the fastest-growing fields in modern engineering. The curriculum spans design principles, computer-aided design (CAD), reverse engineering, materials science, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
The program is structured to be flexible: it can supplement UTEP's Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, complement a graduate degree at another institution, or stand alone as a professional development credential for licensed engineers seeking to expand their capabilities and résumé.

| MECH 5351 Introduction to 3D Engineering and Additive Manufacturing | Fundamentals of 3DE and AM across a diverse spectrum of technologies and application areas, including design principles, CAD, reverse engineering, analysis, and 3D printing. Students will be able to make informed decisions about design and process selection and understand the materials science behind AM performance limitations. | 3 |
| MECH 5352 Design for 3D Engineering and Additive Manufacturing | Design fundamentals of 3DE and AM, including economics of technologies with respect to design and process selection. Students apply engineering tools such as CAD, FEA, and CFD to optimize performance within technology and materials constraints. | 3 |
| MECH 5353 Advanced 3D Engineering and Additive Manufacturing | Advanced 3DE and AM topics applied to the state-of-the-art in design, analysis, process selection, materials, manufacturing, and final part performance — with emphasis on new design principles available through 3DE and AM. | 3 |

Financial aid may be available to full-time UTEP graduate students completing this certificate as part of a Master's or Doctoral program. To be considered for open Research Assistantship (RA) or Teaching Assistantship (TA) opportunities, send your résumé to the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department or the W.M. Keck Center for 3D Innovation.
