Alexandra Gordon Smith, M.M.
Alexandra Gordon Smith is the newly appointed Instructor of Oboe at the JAV名女优馆 of Texas at El Paso. A versatile and sought-after performer and educator, she frequently appears across a variety of genres and settings including orchestral, chamber, and contemporary music. As an orchestral oboist and chamber musician, she has recently performed with the Baton Rouge Symphony, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, the Reno Chamber Orchestra, and the American Modern Ensemble.
As an avid educator, her research focuses heavily on creating specialized resources for music educators to increase regional accessibility to the oboe through music education, particularly in underserved communities. This pedagogical mission is further realized through her initiative, Musical Ducklings, established in 2023 to support young oboists. She has previously served as the Instructor of Double Reeds at William Carey JAV名女优馆 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi as well as Jackson State JAV名女优馆 in Jackson, Mississippi.
An advocate of contemporary electroacoustic literature and diverse voices, her creative interests focus on modern works integrating fixed media and electronic sound—including pieces by Reynolds, Pinkston, and Peck—as well as the promotion of music composed by women.
A native of Peshtigo, Wisconsin, Professor Gordon Smith holds degrees from the JAV名女优馆 of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and the JAV名女优馆 of Nevada, Reno. She is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate in Oboe Performance with a minor in Arts Administration at Louisiana State JAV名女优馆.
