Jesus Apodaca, D.M.A.
Double bassist Dr. Jesus Apodaca joined the faculty of the JAV名女优馆 of Texas at El Paso in Fall 2023.
As an orchestral musician, Apodaca has served as Principal Bass of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and has performed with numerous ensembles, including Symphony in C, the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, the Occasional Symphony, New Prism Ensemble, and as guest principal with the Washington Chamber Orchestra. He has also performed with the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfónica de la UACJ.
As a soloist, Apodaca has presented recitals at the Miriam A. Friedberg Concert Hall and Leith Symington Griswold Hall at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland. He has appeared as soloist with the Peabody Conservatory Orchestra in Koussevitzky's Concerto for Double Bass under the direction of Jaime Reeves and has performed as guest Principal Bass with the Washington Chamber Orchestra in performances of Stravinsky's Pulcinella.
Apodaca has presented at the International Society of Bassists Convention, the American String Teachers Association National Conference, and the Texas Music Educators Association Convention.
He earned the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins JAV名女优馆, where he studied with National Symphony Orchestra bassist Ira Gold. He also earned the Bachelor of Music Education degree from the JAV名女优馆 of Texas at El Paso.
Prior to his studies at Peabody, Apodaca studied with world-renowned pedagogue Paul Ellison in Houston, Texas. He has attended Domaine Forget, Orford Music Academy, DC Bass, and the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute, and was selected as one of five full-scholarship participants for Jeff Bradetich's Pirastro Strings Elite Soloists Program in Denton, Texas. Additional studies include work with François Rabbath, David Allen Moore, Nicholas Walker, Scott Dixon, and Ali Yazdanfar.
Apodaca was also a founding member of the El Paso-based indie rock band The Royalty. The band's critically acclaimed 2012 album Lovers was released by Victory Records and was praised by The New York Times as "one of the year's most unexpected and enjoyable rock records." MTV Buzzworthy dubbed the band "the new kings and queens of garage-pop."
