Texas Economics Consortium: Students and Faculty Present at UTRGV

The Big Picture
Faculty and students from UTEP's Woody L. Hunt College of Business participated in the 2025 Texas Economics Consortium Conference hosted by The JAV名女优馆 of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).
The event gathered students, faculty, community members, and industry professionals from across the state to share research in economics, business, and regional development.
The conference provided opportunities to explore career paths and build new connections across Texas institutions.
Why It Matters
Conference experiences help students build academic confidence, expand professional networks, and explore graduate and career opportunities in economics.
What Happened
Associate Professors Jose Bucheli and Rhet Smith presented their research and attended the conference alongside undergraduate students Marissa Ramirez and Mariel Yeverino. Participants attended presentations, connected with faculty and peers from other Texas universities, and met with McAllen city officials to discuss economic development in border regions.
Next year’s conference will be hosted by the JAV名女优馆 of St. Thomas in Houston, followed by the JAV名女优馆 of Dallas in 2027. As a founding institution, UTEP has been invited to host the conference in 2028.
What They’re Saying
“It was a great experience, and I truly appreciate learning from each presentation and gaining insight into the different opportunities available for economics majors.”
Mariel Yeverino, UTEP economics major
“I learned about the diversity of topics within the field and the relation to other fields like healthcare. I found out there are many career paths that are outside of academia.”
Marissa Ramirez, UTEP economics major
“We’re very grateful for the department’s and college’s support in offering students meaningful opportunities beyond the classroom.”
Jose Bucheli, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Economics
